The Pittsburgh Tuba Project

The Pittsburgh Tuba Project is an all-tuba quartet that primarily performs custom arrangements. The group members are John DiCesare, Brian McBride, Tom Lukowicz, and Tyler Schwirian. The quartet has performed concerts at the 2014 International Tuba Euphonium Conference, the 2013 and 2015 Midwest Regional Tuba Euphonium Conferences, Heinz Hall for the Pittsburgh Symphony, Wright State University, Carnegie Mellon University, Michigan State University, and Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts.

The group uses various combinations of tubas that include 1 Gronitz PCK, 3 Meinl Weston 6450s, 2 Meinl Weston 2250s, a Willson 3200, and a Meinl Weston 6460. The group believes that changing instruments allows us to pick the exact tonal color that is appropriate for each piece, whether a lighter vocal piece or a powerful rendition of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor.
